District Project Officer, Kasese District
Born and raised in the mountain areas of the Rwenzori, and specifically Kasese, Jerome has a sentimental attachment to his cradleland. He originally trained and practiced as a journalist gaining placement in Uganda’s media conglomerates; Vision Group, Uganda Radio Network-URN and the Nation Media Group-NMG.
However, Jerome felt the works of his pen and microphone were not doing enough, he wanted to compliment them with practical solutions. In 2017, he sought leadership and was voted as a Director at the Rwenzururu Discussion Board, a 4000-member community think-tank where he has been leading debates on community development issues specifically focused on the Rwenzori region. He has also been involved in a series of community projects implemented by the think-tank, including local philanthropy to support rural schools with scholastic materials to enhance learner performance, Sexual Reproductive Health Rights for adolescent girls and career guidance to young people.
Jerome, then left the comfort of Kampala to work in his conflict-stricken community of Kasese. He joined Catholic Workers Movement Uganda-CWM as a Field Secretary in the Diocese of Kasese where he over saw the construction of Rosa Mystica Home of Old Aged in Katwe Kabatooro Town Council and introduced a series of household income-generating projects like the GIPA- (Give a Pig Arrangement), beneficiaries of which are leading piggery farmers today.
He subsequently joined Conservation and Demand Agency-CODEA as the Chief Executive Officer, during whose tenure, the human resource expanded from a paltry 8 to over 35. He is recognised for his great people management skills and a cool temperament yet he remains steadfast in his quest for quality work. Jerome later joined Uganda Martyrs University-UMU as a scholar of the German political foundation Konrad Adenaur Stiftung-KAS where he pursued a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Democracy and Development Studies, cementing his place in community development work. He has also attended several trainings from the African Centre for Media Excellence-ACME, Action for Community Development-ACODE, African Institute of Investigative Journalism-AIIJ, and the French Embassy. He is excited to be a part of the Ugandans for Peace Activity.
